Liver Cirrhosis is a complicated state of liver characterized by replacement of liver tissue by
  • fibrosis
  • scar tissues
  • nodules that occur on regeneration of damaged tissues.

How can you recognize a person with liver cirrhosis?

Here are the symptoms that can tell you for certain that you are in front of a person with liver cirrhosis.

  • jaundice or yellowing of the skin,
  • fatigue or weakness, tremor
  • eating disorders,
  • weight loss,
  • itching,
  • accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity,
  • bleeding veins in oesophagus, the tube connecting throat to stomach,
  • brain disorders,
  • deterioration of kidney functions,
  • development of large breasts in males,
  • hepatic encephalopathy or confusion and coma that may be fatal
  • up and down jerking movements of the hands

There may be other symptoms we may not notice, like:

  • distended veins across the abdomen
  • vascular lesions,
  • lack of clotting factors in the blood,
  • liver cancer

All the above symptoms need not be present in every patient and absence of a few of these symptoms cannot rule out liver cirrhosis.
